An MP is backing a nationwide campaign to celebrate local businesses.

Alison Taylor, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, is supporting Scotland Loves Local Week by visiting businesses across her constituency to promote the "high-quality products and services" on offer.

Ms Taylor said: "I am throwing my support behind Scotland Loves Local Week and the drive to boost the many fantastic local businesses across my constituency.

"Local businesses are the lifeblood of our towns and villages.

"Scotland Loves Local is about the transformational impact of choosing local and the difference that can be made to friends, family and neighbours by getting behind local businesses of all kinds."

Following a recent visit to Caulders Garden Centre at Erskine Bridge, Ms Taylor praised the team’s community spirit and commitment.

She said: "It was a genuine pleasure spending time with the Caulders team.

"They showed me round and let me see what Caulders is all about – I definitely picked up their passion for beautiful, healthy plants, wholesome home-cooked food and supporting local communities such as Erskine Hospital by making regular donations.

"Caulders employ horticulturists, retail staff and their own bakers in their bakery, which really shows in the delicious range of food served in their welcoming, popular restaurant.

"I've loved to shop in Caulders for many years and I look forward to my next visit."

Colin Barrie, managing director of Caulders Garden Centres, welcomed the Scotland Loves Local campaign.

He said: "At Caulders, we have new ideas driven by old-fashioned values.

"We aim to support local suppliers, employ local people and champion our local communities.

"Our team is passionate and aims to deliver the best possible service and quality in both retail and catering.

"We are proud to be part of the Scotland Loves Local campaign and delighted to have had the opportunity to join other members in supporting success for local businesses."

Scotland Loves Local Week is led by Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP), which encourages people to support businesses in their area to build stronger, more sustainable communities.

The theme for this year’s campaign is "People Make Places", emphasising the vital role individuals and communities play in supporting local economies.

Kimberley Guthrie, chief officer at STP, said: "It is all too easy to underestimate the impact that supporting local people, supporting local businesses and local businesses supporting other local businesses can have.

"But the fact is that every one of us can play a remarkable part in building better, stronger communities by doing exactly that."

Ms Taylor added: "Every pound we spend locally is a vote for the people who make your place special.

"I will continue to support our local businesses and look forward to visiting as many as I can to highlight the great services and products they offer."
