A trial has been set for a man who is alleged to have assaulted a woman to the “danger of her life” in a Renfrewshire flat.

John Cooper is alleged to have assaulted the woman on September 6, 2024 at a flat in Paisley’s Kilnside Road.

Cooper, of Gordon Street in Kettering, is alleged to have thrown a box at the woman’s head, lunged at her, sit on her body and repeatedly punch her on the head.

The charge further alleges Cooper seized the woman by the neck and compressed it therefore restricting her breathing, held her against a wall, punched her on the head and struck her head with a glass bottle, all to their “severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger to her life.”

The 40-year-old is also alleged to have caused “fear or alarm” on the same date, and at the same flat by shouting, swearing and acting in an aggressive manner while in possession of a glass bottle.

Defence agent Mr Johnstone told Paisley Sheriff Court, Cooper denies the charges against him and the defence case is ready for trial.

Sheriff Sheena Fraser fixed a trial for February 23 and Cooper’s bail was continued meantime.
