Renfrewshire train commuters are set to face disruption until at least the end of this week after a fire near Glasgow Central Station.

Emergency services were called to a four-storey commercial property on Union Street at around 3.46pm on Sunday, March 8, following reports of a fire affecting the ground floor.

Due to this, the busy train station was shut as more than 200 firefighters worked to bring the inferno under control.

On Monday, Network Rail announced that Glasgow Central would remain closed for two days as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) worked on the site.

The rail operator has now issued a further update confirming that due to a “high level of instability” of the building façade on Gordon Street, no trains will run from the high-level platforms this week.

This has led to major disruption for those who travel on the Renfrewshire line towards the city centre.

Trains are unable to travel on the route from Largs, meaning stations at Lochwinnoch, Howwood, Miliken Park, Johnstone and Paisley Gilmour Street are all impacted.
