Paisley is among the top contenders for a major national title.
The area has a 40 per cent chance of being named UK Town of Culture 2028 , according to bookmakers OBLG , with 6/4 odds placing it second only to Reading in Berkshire, England.

Jake Ashton, current affairs editor at OBLG, said: "These markets often favour towns with a strong regeneration story.
"Reading leads on infrastructure, but places like Margate or Hastings could shorten if their bids gain momentum."
