A fundraiser has been launched for an injured cat found in Renfrewshire.

The black cat, now known as Poppy, was brought into Abbey Veterinary Practice in Paisley by a volunteer at Johnstone Cat Rescue after being contacted by a concerned member of the public.

Volunteers say the animal was found shivering after it appeared to be abandoned by its owners.

The woman who found her could tell she was in serious pain and wrapped her in a blanket and brought her inside.

However, Poppy could barely walk and she was rushed to the vets where it was discovered that she had a fractured pelvis.

Poppy was scanned for a microchip but nothing was found.

With no owner, the costs of veterinary treatment fall on the shoulders of Johnstone Cat Rescue, who said "do whatever you need to do".

Volunteers have set up a GoFundMe page with an end goal of £3,500 to help Poppy get the help.

Johnstone Cat Rescue claim to have made contact with Poppy's owner, who sadly "did not want the cat back".

The cat is now being fostered at home with a staff member from Abbey Veterinary, who will continue to provide pain relief and keep her restricted to allow her to heal, which can take up to 8 weeks.

Once she has fully recovered, it is understood that little Poppy will be looking for a new home.
