Landmarks across the UK and Ireland will turn blue this month as part of a national campaign.

The Bascule Bridge, Renfrew Town Hall, Houston Square Bandstand, and Tweedie Hall are among the 229 sites participating in the Nerve Tumours UK charity campaign on Sunday, May 17.

The Shine A Light On NF initiative, part of World NF Awareness Month, aims to highlight neurofibromatosis (NF), an incurable neuro-genetic condition that causes tumours to grow on nerve endings.

NF, which includes Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), NF2-related Schwannomatosis (NF2), and Schwannomatosis (SWN), collectively affects more than 26,500 people in the UK.

While common among neuro-genetic conditions, NF remains classified as rare.

Parents have a 50% chance of passing it to their child, with half of all diagnoses being the first in the family.

The condition is incurable, but Nerve Tumours UK has been providing support and advice for more than 45 years to those affected, as well as their wider support networks, including carers, family members, teachers, employers, and healthcare professionals.
