Renfrew coach Jimmy Quigley was pleased to repay the hard work from the club's committee as they earned promotion to the Lowland League West on Saturday.

Frew were 4-2 winners over Johnstone Burgh to secure their spot as one of the top nine Scottish FA licensed teams in the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division table thanks to goals from Aiden Malcolm, Scott Morton, Gregor Wylie and Kieran Healy.

The New Western Park outfit earned their license last month after relentless behind-the-scenes work from the club's committee and volunteers to get their facilities up to scratch and boxes ticked.

Renfrew had lost 4-0 at Rutherglen Glencairn last weekend which set up a tense season finale with Quigley's troops needing a point to guarantee promotion, and he was pleased to see them do it in style.

Speaking to Gazette Sport, he said: "We had to make sure we did our side and it was a good performance from the guys.

"The second half against Glencairn last week we downed tools and a few guys switched off so we had to put that behind us and get the job done.

"We’ve managed to beat Burgh twice this season which is pleasing because they are our local rivals and have a team full of very good players.

"Over the last couple of the years the committee have worked really hard and been so committed to the club, it’s a relatively small committee that we have but they are doing loads of work all the time and they’ll begin working straight away to get everything ready for next season.

"I was delighted we managed to get into that position and secure promotion after securing our license so a lot of credit goes to the committee over the last few years."

Morton signed off from the club in style having celebrated his testimonial this season after signing for Frew in 2016.

He scored 115 goals in 235 games in a Renfrew jersey and Quigley was pleased to see him bow out on a high.

He said: "Scott has been fantastic, he is a legend of the club and signs off as the second highest scorer.

"As you start to get older and younger guys come in then it has kept Scott out of the team and he said he wanted to get more gametime and not finish his career sitting on the bench which is totally understandable.

"It was always in my mind to give him the armband and start him to send him off and it was really fitting for a player of his quality."
