A new campaign is shining a spotlight on the businesses powering our high streets.

MP Alison Taylor is championing Scotland Loves Local Week, which runs from June 13 to 20 and celebrates businesses in towns.

As part of the week, which is running under the theme Flying the Flag for Local Businesses, Ms Taylor visited Kustom Kruizers, a community bicycle shop near Robertson Park in Renfrew.

The shop refurbishes donated and pre-owned bicycles, providing affordable options for cyclists.

Ms Taylor said: "Whenever possible, I choose to back local businesses and the people behind them.

"I enjoyed meeting Kustom Kruizers directors Dave Neill and Colin Nelson, who showed me around the workshop and coffee bar area and told me more about what makes Kustom Kruizers so special.

"The workshop looks fantastic and, the services on offer make a real difference in the community.

"By offering quality refurbished bikes at a fraction of the cost of buying new, it helps remove financial barriers and encourages more people to access the benefits of cycling.

"I was impressed by how friendly and welcoming Kustom Kruizers is and I encourage anyone interested in bike maintenance or looking to buy a quality bike at an affordable price to drop in, enjoy a chat and a coffee, and see what’s on offer.

"I’m a great believer that when we buy local, we create better places to live, work and visit."

Dave Neill, co-director, said the shop is committed to supporting the wider community.

He said: "Kustom Kruizers is about much more than bikes.

"We work with local schools to deliver bicycle maintenance workshops, teaching practical skills and encouraging young people to develop confidence in maintaining their own bikes.

"We also host a weekly Men’s Mental Health Night every Monday, providing a relaxed, welcoming environment where people can meet, talk and connect through a shared interest.

"Alongside our popular coffee offering, the shop has become a community hub where people regularly stop in for a chat, support, or simply to enjoy a good coffee.

"Our aim is to create a space that brings people together, promotes wellbeing, and makes a positive contribution to the Renfrew community."
