A new Lidl store could be built at the site of the former St James Business Centre in Linwood.

The proposed development comes just after dozens of small firms based at the centre were told they had to leave.

A leaflet shared on local social media pages confirms plans for the new food store on Linwood Road.

The discount retailer is inviting residents and stakeholders to have their say on the proposals before a planning application is finalised.

The supermarket would sit on land formerly occupied by St James Business Centre.

When closing in 2024, the building’s owners said it had reached “the end of its economic life span”.

Around 48 businesses were based in the complex before the closure.

Many told how they were given only a few weeks’ notice to move out and were asked to vacate by early April 2024.

Owners were asked to submit their requirements for alternative space nearby, including at Phoenix Business Park and St James Business Park.

Some business owners said they were left in “limbo” as it was unclear whether the new suites would be ready in time or suitable for their needs.

Renfrewshire Council said it had no prior warning of the closure.
