A special anniversary concert struck the right chord with audiences.

Renfrew Burgh Band marked 115 years since its formation with a celebratory event at Renfrew Town Hall, featuring Foden’s Band guest principals Mark Wilkinson and Adams Artist Gary Curtin.

The two joined a day of rehearsals and workshops before taking the stage as soloists in a concert that filled the packed hall.

Mark Good, musical director, said: "Our summer concert has become an annual tradition in recent years, but this year was extra special for our band family as we marked the band's 115th anniversary by welcoming Foden's Band stars, Mark Wilkinson and Gary Curtin.

"Mark and Gary were brilliant with the band, inspiring us with their playing, and sharing their advice and experience with band members with honesty and good humour.

"The audience in Renfrew Town Hall was fantastic, and the band really revelled in the special occasion, performing with great discipline and musicality."

The summer performance followed months of planning and rehearsals by the band and its leadership team.

Shona Jones, chairperson of Renfrew Burgh Band, said: "It was a pleasure to welcome friends and supporters old and new as we celebrated 115 years of Renfrew Burgh Band.

"We're proud of our heritage and grateful to all those whose dedication has ensured that brass band music continues to thrive in Renfrew.

"Thank you to everyone who supported us at the weekend, including the local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes.

"We look forward to many more years of representing Renfrew with pride, at home and further afield."

The summer concert concluded a busy few months for the band with a string of recent performances, including at Renfrew Gala Day and a session at Glasgow Airport as well as fundraising efforts.

The band will now take a short break before resuming rehearsals later in July to prepare for the coming contest season.
