A "safer summer" campaign has been launched in Renfrewshire to keep people safe over the coming months.

Police Scotland and partner organisations gathered in Paisley town centre to mark the start of the initiative, which will run throughout the summer and include targeted patrols and school visits.

Each week will focus on a different safety priority, starting with violence, disorder, and anti-social behaviour.

Chief Inspector Iain Farmer, Renfrewshire’s Local Area Commander, said: "The launch welcomed police, partners, elected members and MSPs together to highlight our dedication to making our communities safe.

"Our patrols within targeted areas intend to deter violence and disorder within our communities."

"My ask to parents and carers is, do you know what your children are doing throughout the summer, who they are with and are their actions having an effect on our communities.

"I encourage the public to speak with our teams and discuss any concerns that they have within their community."

Officers have already been visiting schools across the region to educate young people on staying safe, with particular emphasis on the use of e-scooters and fully electric bikes.
