A Lochwinnoch man has been fined after sending “inappropriate” social media messages to a teenager.

Bruce Renfrew admitted at Paisley Sheriff Court to causing a 15-year-old female “fear or alarm.”

Between April 20, last year and May 1, last year, at his home in Lochwinnoch, the creep sent “repeated and inappropriate” social media messages to the young girl.

The 66-year-old faced a charge which alleged he sent the same teenager a social media message on May 1, last year, asking to see pictures of her body.

His not guilty plea to this charge was accepted by the Crown and he was acquitted of that charge.

On Wednesday, Renfrew was fined £450 discounted from £600 as his plea was previously offered and refused by the Crown.

A surcharge of £20 was also added. The court ordered payment within 28 days.

The Crown also conceded that there was no “significant sexual element” to the social media messages he did send and therefore notification requirements were not imposed.
