Police are appealing for information after a busy Paisley road was lit up by fire in the early hours of this morning.

Fire services responded to a blaze in George Street around 2am where it was promptly put out and police confirmed no one was injured.

The fire is now being treated as wilful, and as investigations begin, officials are urging anyone in the area to check their private CCTV or doorbell footage in case it contains information that could aid the case.

Detective Constable Jade Clark said: “The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious to get in touch. Please check any private CCTV that you have to see if something has been captured that could assist with our investigation.

“If you were driving in the area at the time please also check dash-cam in case you have footage that could assist officers.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0406 of Saturday, 18 July, 2026, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
