A village football club’s bid for a long-term lease of its home ground is expected to be determined by Renfrewshire councillors next month.

Calderglen Community SCIO, formed from Calderglen AFC, submitted a revised request for a community asset transfer (CAT) of its pitch in Lochwinnoch Public Park.

The application for a 75-year deal – covering the fenced area on the north-western side and a small rectangle behind the annexe at the Lochlip Road site – was validated in June.

Renfrewshire Council has confirmed a provisional date has been set for its consideration, with the matter set to go before the CAT sub-committee on Wednesday, August 26.

Last year, the club pulled a previous ownership request , which covered an additional section of the park, after an influx of objections from the community.

During the process for the adjusted application this year, it has hosted a viewing of the changing rooms, held a meeting for the village and made a formal presentation to Lochwinnoch Community Council.

Earlier this month, a spokesperson explained: “The trustees listened carefully to the feedback from last year’s submission resulting in that proposal being withdrawn.

“We feel that we have acted respectfully and honourably in our response to all of the views shared with us in 2025.

“That is why we’ve submitted what we think is a more acceptable solution for the village this time.

“Calderglen have been in existence since 1950 and actually developed that playing surface from a grazing field during those early days.

“We feel it’s only right and proper that, as custodians of the club, we have the opportunity to build on that legacy.”

The latest CAT was received by the local authority on Tuesday, June 9, and a consultation period ended on Friday, July 10.

Significant sums of money have already been invested in both fencing and changing facilities for the ground.

Calderglen Community was established in 2022 as a vehicle for the asset transfer, citing frustration at the lack of investment in sport and recreation facilities in the village as a reason.

The organisation’s purposes include advancing public participation in sport and providing facilities to the community and community-focused groups.

Calderglen AFC was founded in 1950 and has used the site as its home pitch for as long as people associated with the club can remember.
