Part of the M8 is set to close for a whole weekend next month.

It comes as maintenance is carried out on the St James’ Viaduct at Junction 28A –A737 link.

The next phase of works includes the replacement of the bridge expansion joint on the eastbound carriageway, which requires traffic management to facilitate.

Overnight closures will be in place at this location, each night, from August 6 to 28, with a signed diversion in place.

Traffic will be diverted onto the A737 off slip to the St James’ Interchange, from here traffic will join the M8 via the Junction 29 eastbound on-slip road and the diversion will end.

A total weekend closure will be in place from 10pm on Friday, August 21 until Monday, August 24 and traffic will follow the above signed diversion during this period.

The current 30mph temporary speed restriction will be removed following completion of this maintenance.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
