Scotia Handling Services, which was established in 1973, has submitted an application for planning permission for the proposed changes at its site in Bridge Street.
If approved by the local authority, the layout will be rationalised while boosting operational safety and efficiency, with overgrown vegetation to the rear cleared to improve vehicle manoeuvrability and a modular unit removed.
The project would also see a remaining modular unit moved to the back for use as storage and three converted shipping containers installed to provide modern office space with disabled access.
That’s according to an application which was received by the council towards the end of June and subsequently validated by its planning department last Wednesday.
Scotia Handling Services is a long-standing company that specialises in lifting equipment and load testing for an array of industry clients, including those from the marine, construction and engineering sectors.

It has been in Linwood since its incorporation more than 50 years ago and states on its website that it has built a reputation on “an unswervingly high quality service” with a focus on customer satisfaction at the centre of what it does.
Describing the land’s existing use in the application, it explained: “The site has been our business location since incorporation in 1973.
“We are an independent, family-run business that specialises in lifting equipment and load testing for the marine, construction and engineering sectors primarily.”
At present, its workshop premises are positioned towards the front and behind that are the two modular units that serve as office space. Beside these buildings is an area of parking and to the rear is a yard.
The local authority has notified neighbours of the site about the plans via letter and invited them to comment. They have until Wednesday, August 12, if they would like to do so.
A decision on the application, which is expected to be made by planning officers, will be confirmed at a later date.
