Drivers face some disruption in Paisley town centre in the coming weeks as Renfrewshire Council carries out footway and carriageway resurfacing.

The works will be undertaken in stages on High Street, between Storie Street and Lady Lane, from Tuesday, August 4, until Monday, August 31.

Road closures and traffic management measures, including temporary lights, will be needed to make sure the job can be completed in a safe manner.

The local authority set out the timeline of the project and what it will entail in a briefing note issued to elected members on Wednesday.

It explained: “We will be resurfacing the footway opposite Thomas Coats Memorial Church  … These works are proposed to commence on August 4 and are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

“Temporary traffic lights will be in operation during this phase of the works.

“Following completion of the footway works, resurfacing of the carriageway will be carried out from just beyond Lady Lane to Storie Street.

“To undertake these works safely, a full road closure will be required. However, the works will be phased to minimise disruption wherever possible.

“The first phase of works will commence at 6pm on Friday, August 21, with carriageway excavation works, followed by daytime working on Saturday and Sunday.

“During this phase, the road closure will be in place continuously from 6pm on Friday, August 21, until 6am on Monday, August 24.

“The second phase of works will commence at 8am on Saturday, August 29, and continue until 6am on Monday, August 31.

“Although works will take place during daytime hours on Saturday and Sunday, the road closure will remain in place until Monday morning to allow sufficient curing time for the surfacing materials.”

A temporary running surface will be provided between the first and second phases of the carriageway resurfacing, with ramps installed at the edges and around ironwork as necessary.

Road users have been advised to drive carefully and at an appropriate speed when travelling through the area.

It is anticipated all works will be finished by 6am on Monday, August 31, but this will be subject to weather conditions and operational requirements.

During the periods of road closure, a signed diversion route will be in operation via Storie Street, Causeyside Street, George Street, Maxwellton Street and Broomlands Street.

Pedestrian access to properties and businesses will be maintained throughout the works, emergency service access will be sustained at all times and vehicle access to properties within the area will be facilitated where safe and practicable.
