A month-long campaign aimed at helping people find jobs and training opportunities is set to launch next month.

Employability Month, led by the Renfrewshire Local Employability Partnership, will feature a packed schedule of events across the region, including recruitment fairs, workshops, information sessions, and networking opportunities.

The programme is designed to support people at all stages of their employment journey—from school leavers and job seekers to those considering a career change or facing barriers to work.

Councillor Andy Steel, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, said: "We’ve achieved significant success in recent years in helping residents overcome barriers to work and secure access to employment, training and educational opportunities by working in close collaboration with our local employability partners.

"Renfrewshire Employability Month highlights the wide range of support and opportunities available to everyone, whether you’re looking to develop new skills, gain qualifications, begin a new career or take the next step in your professional journey.

"I encourage you to sign up for events and share the programme with friends, family and colleagues who may benefit."

Around 50 employers are expected to take part, including Home Instead, Bluebirdcare, McTaggart Construction, Onecloud Healthcare, Visiting Angels, HMRC, and Renfrewshire Council’s Modern Apprenticeships and Traineeships.

Events will run throughout the month and are open to all, including school pupils and their parents, unemployed individuals, and those looking to advance or change their careers.

Among the events on offer is the Employment Support Showcase, taking place at Paisley’s Lagoon Leisure Centre on Tuesday, September 1, from 11am to 2pm.

This drop-in event will introduce attendees to a range of services designed to make the journey into work as smooth as possible.

Other highlights include Skills for Success at the University of the West of Scotland’s Paisley campus on Wednesday, September 16, from 10am to 12pm.

This event will feature inspiring talks, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities to help attendees explore career pathways and build new skills.

The Careers and Jobs in Renfrewshire event will also be held at the Lagoon Leisure Centre on Thursday, September 24, from 10am to 1pm.

This drop-in session will give visitors the chance to meet employers from various sectors and find out about current job vacancies.

For those looking to improve their CVs and interview skills, the Getting Career Ready workshops will be held at the Russell Institute in Paisley on September 3, 10, 17, and 24, from 2pm to 3pm.

Spaces can be booked by emailing invest@renfrewshire.gov.uk.

The Renfrewshire Local Employability Partnership has been operating for more than 15 years and is recognised nationally as a model for effective, place-based support.

In the past year alone, more than 1900 residents have been helped by the council’s employability services to overcome barriers and secure positive outcomes in employment, education, or training.

One of those residents, Leigh-ann from Paisley, said the support has helped her build confidence and focus on her goals.

She said: "I’ve been in a couple of times speaking to an advisor regarding CVs and who’s best to talk to in terms of where to go to progress.

"I’m hoping to get my dream job out of this and the courses will at the very least help me bump up my CV."

Renfrewshire Council’s employability services are based at the Russell Institute, 30 Causeyside Street, Paisley.

Residents can drop in to find out more or contact the Invest in Renfrewshire team on 0300 300 1180 or by emailing invest@renfrewshire.gov.uk.
