A SPLASH of paint went a long way as excited youngsters lined up for an unusual race in Linwood.

The athletics track at the On-X leisure centre was turned into a rainbow as children took part in the Colour Run Race.

More than 30 youngsters signed up for the colourful event, which involved tackling an obstacle course while being pelted with powdered paint.

The messy fun was part of the October Week Activities Camp organised by Renfrewshire Leisure.

Thankfully for the children involved, not to mention their parents, the powdered paint was easy to wash off.

Joyce McKellar, chief executive of Renfrewshire Leisure, said the activities programme was the ideal way for youngsters to banish any school holiday boredom.

She told The Gazette: “Our school holiday activity camps are becoming more popular every year.

“We try to bring lots of fun into the activities.

“Our staff spend a lot of time coming up with new ideas for activities for the kids to enjoy.”

Other events organised by Renfrewshire Leisure during the October break saw children having a go at climbing, archery, futsal and dancing at a number of sites, including the Lagoon Leisure Centre, in Paisley, and Renfrew High School.

Renfrewshire Leisure was founded in 2003 to take on the management of Renfrewshire Council’s indoor sports centres and swimming pools.

Two years ago, the organisation also took on the management of assets such as town halls, libraries, museums and Paisley Arts Centre, along with Active Schools functions and playing fields.
