The BBC has confirmed that new episodes of smash hit, Gavin & Stacey could ‘one day’ be in the pipeline.
Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore dropped the massive bombshell when she outlined the BBC’s Christmas TV schedule for 2020.
While announcing the schedule to BBC News that will see festive favourites such as Call the Midwife, Doctor Who and Mrs Brown’s Boys return Charlotte Moore explained that there will be no follow-up to last year’s episode.
She said: That wasn’t something that was going to happen this year,” before teasing: “One day.”
The one-off Christmas special broke records last year when it became the most-watched Christmas show of the decade, pulling in almost half of the TV audience at 8:30pm with 11.6 million viewers.
The sitcom written by and starring Ruth Jones and James Corden ran on the BBC between 2007 and 2010, first on BBC Three and then moved to BBC One, before it’s return in 2019 which saw Matthew Horne, Joanna Page, Larry Lamb, Allison Steadman, Melanie Walters and Rob Brydon reprise their iconic roles.
The news will delight fans of the show who are eager to see if Smithy (Corden) says yes to Nessa (Jones) who proposed in the final moments of last year’s Christmas special leaving fans on a huge cliffhanger.
