THE flag was flown for Scotland in London last night as Tom Walkers and Calvin Harris walked away with top gongs at the Brit Awards.

Glasgow-born Tom thanked his gran as he claimed the prize for British breakthrough act – despite not having released an album.

The singer, who had a hit track with Leave A Light On, earlier said he would be getting “right on it” if he took home a gong.

The 27-year-old hailed the influence of his team and his friends before addressing his gran.

The Scot vocalist said: “Thank you so much. To my management team, absolute legends.

“To everybody up in Scotland, to my gran who is watching somewhere on telly: yes, gran, here we are.

“This is an absolute honour and a privilege.”

Earlier, Tom was asked on the red carpet how he would celebrate if he won.

He replied: “By getting bang on it, mate. We are going to have a couple of beers afterwards.

The Gazette:

“It’s the first day in ages where I’ve been drinking and had the next day off.”

Dumfries-born Calvin took home two gongs.

After 16 nominations in 10 years, the Scottish DJ won for his hit song with Dua Lipa 'One Kiss' and also took home British producer of the year.

Calvin has undergone quite the transformation, from being a budding DJ recording in his bedroom to becoming a double Brit-winning musician who models on the side.

But the Scottish star’s success did not come overnight.

The Gazette:

The 35-year-old started recording demos in his bedroom in his teens and has been plugging away at his career ever since.

Harris said it meant “a lot” to have won his first ever Brit.

The star, who also performed at the show for the first time, added: “I’ve been coming here for a few years and I’ve never got the opportunity to say anything on this stage before.

“I want to thank the people at home, I want to thank these people here, I want to thank anyone that has bought a tune, streamed a tune, come to a show, listened to a song by accident on the radio and gone, ‘What’s this?”

Calvin's music career got started when he was spotted on social networking website MySpace.

But he did not get his real break until 2006, when he signed a recording contract with Sony BMG.
