The centre back revealed he has played against the Greenock side in a number of bounce games — but stressed there are no friendlies between the sides.

Baird said: “I’ve only every played Morton at reserve level so I can’t wait to play against their first team, it will be a great day for me and the squad.

“I’ve heard a lot in the changing room about the size of the occasion.

“You get a lot of friendlies against Morton as they are very close so you do realise from a very young age that it is a very big thing to be playing against Morton.

“There is no such thing as a friendly against Morton to be honest — it is just called a friendly.” Baird is set to form part of a back four which will no doubt be the youngest in the league.

The 19-year-old will be joined by Luke Conlan, 20, Sean Kelly, 21, and possibly Barry Cuddihy, the youngest of the four at 18-years-old.

Cuddihy looks set to replace crocked Jason Naismith at right back for the occasion, and Baird insists he would have no qualms about lining up alongside his former youth teammate.

He added: “The back four which played against Annan on Tuesday night have played together countless times at under-20s.

“You know it is going to be difficult, Barry Cuddihy hasn’t played a lot of first team games, and I’ve not played an awful lot either.

“We know we will help each other out — but Sean Kelly will get us all through it to be honest as he is the most experienced there even though he is only 21.

“Getting that win will push us on for Friday and once we get a run of wins I think we will do well in this league.”
