Johnstone Burgh’s secretary Ricky Cantwell thanked co-managers Colin Smith, David Brolly and coach Chris Wozencroft for their work at the club, after the trio departed Keanie Park last week.

Fraser Wilson and Stephen McGarrigle will be in temporary charge of the Burgh in their game against Vale of Clyde on Saturday.

The trio handed in their notice on Thursday, coming after last Saturday’s 8-0 loss to Gartcairn.

Cantwell was grateful for their work both on and off the pitch at the Johnstone club.

He said: “The three of them had something in the region of 45 years service to the club.

“Davie Brolly, who came and did a lot of work at the club and on the club house, without wanting any payment for it, and we greatly appreciate everything they’ve done.”

“It’s a sad day especially for myself when they decide to leave.

“These guys gave their heart and soul to Johnstone Burgh and I wish them all the best.”

Finances have been tight at Johnstone Burgh since their relegation to the Central League Second Division, making it tough to sign and hold onto players.

And Cantwell urged any local businesses or interested persons to come forward and help out the Johnstone club.

He added: “We want the club to be something the town of Johnstone is proud of, and want to support.

“We’ve started letting anyone under the age of 12 gets in free.

“I’d appeal to the local business community to take an advertising board around the park or give us a donation.

“The more pressing thing for me personally is to get people in to give us a hand running the club. If anyone is interested in looking at sponsorship opportunities with Johnstone Burgh, please contact Ricky Cantwell on 07719 323744.
