Nicolai Brock-Madsen says he was sold on his move to St Mirren by Greg Stewart - and now hopes his Birmingham team-mate will join him in Paisley.

The giant Danish frontman has joined Alan Stubbs' Buddies on a six-month loan after being told he does not feature in Blues boss Garry Monk's plans.

Former Dundee ace Stewart is in a similar quandary after also being told he is free to move on.

Stubbs has already been linked with the playmaker who spent last year on loan at Aberdeen and now Brock-Madsen hopes he can reunite with his former St Andrew's colleague.

He said: "Greg was one of the first guys I talked with about coming here. He was up here at Aberdeen last year and has a really good knowledge about how the league is and what's going on.

"I got some really positive feedback from him which really helped my decision.

"It was good to talk to him and then when I talked to Alan I was like, 'Yeah this is what I want to do now'.

"I don't know what Greg's plans are but I told him I'd be really happy if he came here too. He needs to do what's right for him though so we will see what happens."

Brock-Madsen joined Birmingham from Randers back in 2015 but has made just eight appearances in three years as the merry-go-round of managers at the Blues made it difficult for him to make his mark.

He did impress on a loan stint with Dutch top-flight side PEC Zwolle, netting 10 goals in 25 appearances back in 2016-17 and the Denmark Under-23 international is now hoping to rediscover that form when he makes his debut against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday.

He said: "You never want to hear that you're not wanted as a football player but I've been in England for three years so I know how things work, especially when you change manager.

"Every manager has a different plan and they want their own players.
"When I went to Zwolle on loan it was good for me, I did really well and hoped I'd come back and get a chance at Birmingham.

"But then Harry Rednapp came in. He was honest with me and said I wasn't in his plans. He brought in 12 new players and when it's like that you know it's going to be really difficult to get in.

"That's frustrating as I wanted to show what I can do.

"Now my focus is just doing well for St Mirren. I've signed a loan deal here and we will see what is coming after. Honestly I just want to get out playing football and show people the real me. Hopefully we will have success as a team then we can decide what happens next.

"Playing Rangers is one of the games you want to be part of. They're a massive club, have a massive stadium and now it's Steven Gerrard's first home game in the league.

"It will be a really difficult game but my feeling is we're going there to win and I think the whole squad does too."

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that Ross Stewart has joined Ross County on a two-year deal.

The Gazette:
