St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs confirms the club would be interested in signing Kenny Miller.

The 38 year-old sensationally agreed to quit Livingston just seven weeks after taking over at the Premiership new boys as player-boss, after deciding to focus on his playing career.

And Stubbs, who tried to snap up the former Rangers striker earlier this summer before he took the dual role at Livi, could try again, but says he hasn’t yet held talks with the veteran hitman.

The former Hibs gaffer said: “Kenny was someone I spoke to in the summer to see what his plans were. I think he was contemplating the few options he had and he decided to go to Livingston.

”I think he has things to tie up there in the short term but once he does that and he thinks about his next move, if it is something we can pursue there would be interest.

“I haven’t spoken to Kenny but once we get the okay that he has sorted everything out with Livingston then we will try and do that.”

Former Rangers and Scotland striker Miller lasted only seven weeks at Livingston

Despite Miller’s very public exit from Rangers and his very short stay at the Tony Macaroni Arena. the Buddies boss would have no qualms about him joining his squad.

He continued: “He is a strong character and I have no problem with people having an opinion. Sometimes that can be a good thing and you need that in the dressing room.

“If you look at Kenny’s situation there have been times that he has said things in the dressing room that has been needed but it hasn’t been put in the press.

“What has gone on at Rangers has come out, but there will be times when he has been right in what he is saying but you don’t hear about that.

“If you think because of one full blown disagreement someone can be labelled this or that is harsh. I have worked with big characters before so I would have no problem with Kenny.”

Alan Stubbs also confirmed that Gary MacKenzie and Adam Eckersley will both need surgery on Achilles injuries, with MacKenzie set to be out for a lengthy period of time.
