RYAN Edwards hopes to use Partick Thistle relegation experience to help St Mirren avoid battling the drop this season.

The Hearts midfielder made a deadline day season long switch to Paisley after it was made clear he wouldn’t be involved in Edinburgh.

Having only made the move to the Jambos earlier this summer, Edwards suffered the drop with the Jags at the end of last season.

He said: “We’ve had bad starts during my time at Thistle, the first four or five months. In terms of St Mirren’s start to the season, they already have three points on the board.

The Gazette:

Edwards was the last man signed during Stubbs' ill-fated reign

“Whereas eight or nine games in we had zero and made the top six. I think the losses they have had the performances haven’t been there, whereas at Thistle the performances were there.”

Edwards was the last signing of former boss Alan Stubbs and the Australian says it has been a different atmosphere since the appointment of former Coleraine manager Oran Kearney.

He continued: “The new manager have uplifted the place. He’s made it  a bit more buzzing and confident.

“From maybe my first day or two, to the end of this week you can sense there’s a feeling within the group there’s a new buzz about the place.

“They’re taking on the ideas of the new manager and I think they are looking forward to getting back out on to the pitch.”
