THORN Athletic skipper Ryan Crawford has been called up to the Scottish Amateur Football Association national side for their upcoming training camp and challenge match.

Crawford was ever present in previous manager Bruce McNaught’s plans, travelling with the squad to Slovenia in June for the preliminary rounds of the UEFA Regions Cup, where he made two appearances in Europe’s top competition for amateurs.

His commanding performances in the middle of the park for the Thorn so far this season have once again caught the eye of the selection committee and new national boss Colin McLeod, who has included the 26-year-old in his 25-man squad.

McLeod’s first training session takes places this Sunday before they take on Whitburn Juniors in a friendly match on Tuesday, October 30.

Thorn Athletic co-manager Johnny McEwan said: “Ryan has been working hard again and has regained his form over the past month, therefore meriting his inclusion in the squad.

“In the summer he was part of the Scotland pool that spent 10 days in Slovenia competing in the UEFA Regions Cup.

“It was a fantastic experience for him and we’re delighted to see he’s back in the fold again under new manager Colin McLeod.”
