STRATHGRYFFE Tennis and Squash Club’s John Meehan won his first European Junior Squash title earlier this month.
Meehan came through four hard-fought rounds in Malmo, Sweden, to secure his place in his first tour final.
The youngster came up against Marek Panacek, the top ranked U-17 player in Europe and the tournament’s number one seed, in a tough final.
Meehan raced into a 2-0 lead, taking the opening games 11-2, 11-7.
And the 16-year-old didn’t let up, going on to clinch the final game 11-9 to win his first European title.
