KILBARCHAN ace Jemma Reekie has been added to British Athletics’ World Class Programme for the 2018-19 season.
The British Athletics WCP is UK Sport’s National Lottery-funded initiative to support the delivery of success at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Membership onto the WCP for 2018-19 is based upon an athletes’ potential to win a medal at Tokyo 2020 or Paris 2024.

Reekie has been placed in the Olympic Podium Potential section, which recognises athletes whose recent performances suggest they have realistic medal winning capabilities at future Olympics.
The 20-year-old is one of the UK’s most promising young stars and made her breakthrough last year with 1,500m gold at the European Athletics Under-20 Championships in Italy.

Reekie, who shares a coach and trains with British 1,500m record holder Laura Muir, made the step-up to senior competitions this season as she finished second at the British Athletics Championships in July before qualifying to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Berlin in September.
Fellow Kilbarchan star Callum Hawkins, meanwhile, has retained his Olympic Podium funding after making his return to competitive action earlier this month at the Valencia half-marathon.
