Ferdinand, brother of former England captain Rio, has become a mainstay in Oran Kearney's side.

Oran Kearney told Stmirren.com: "It’s taken a bit of time, but we’ve had respect for Anton and he has been respectful for us as well.

"His presence about the place has been brilliant both on and off the pitch.

"It’s a big boost for everybody to have him stay on-board."

The news comes just hours after Jordan Holmes joined the club on a loan deal from Premier League Bournemouth and Kyle McAllister returned on a temporary move from Derby.
