St Mirren boss Oran Kearney says there are plenty of points to play for as his side look to get off the foot of the Premiership.

The Buddies face a hard trip to Aberdeen tomorrow, having already shipped eight goals in two visits to Pittodrie this season.

But Kearney realises a shock result could kickstart their campaign.

He said: “There are 13 games left, that’s 39 points to play for. There is a load of football left and you only need to look at Motherwell and the run they have put together. It’s something like that we need to do between now and the end of the season.”

“It starts a tough run of away games for us. But we have had a good week behind us all things considered. We are in good spirits and all we can do is keep looking forward. The flip side, of course, is if we can pick something up at a place like Pittodrie then it might kick-start something for us because right now that’s what we crave.”

The Northern Irishman has only overseen two victories in 13 games since the start of December. But he’s adamant he’s still the man to turn the Paisley club’s fortunes around.

Kearney continued: “You can only play the hand you’re dealt with. I come into a group of players where many wouldn’t have been my cup of tea or what I’d see as the future of the club.

“But you don’t get two or three years to clear that out.

“It’s the speed at trying to clear it out and also get continuity in terms of helping us stay in the league.

“If you look at the January of the promotion season there were ten in and a few outs. Then there was 14 in the summer and more out and the same in the last window.

“For Stephen McGinn and guys like him they must be sitting there and saying ‘wow’ it’s like this all the time with such a big changeover.

“That’s not ideal and it’s not good practice. Yes I’m happy with what is there now and we are still due a run.

“Small things have gone against us even before Christmas when I had the other group of players. We’ve been harshly done by in terms of points.

“But the spirit about the place is good and the players are the biggest indicators of things and that’s still very good.

“They are still open to what I’ve said and all we need is a magic month and that could have a huge impact.”
