RENFREW co-manager Colin Clark was left frustrated on Saturday as Irvine Meadow ran out 3-0 winners against his side at Meadow Park.

There was to be no repeat of the 5-1 victory for Renfrew earlier in the season as Callum Gow notched a double, with Ben Carson also scoring.

It was The Medda’s first-win over The Frew since 1969.

The home side started brightly when Queen’s Park loanee Brendan Sharpe came close in the early stages before Reece Pearson also missed the target from close range.

Renfrew had chances of their own as David McKenna fluffed a one-on-one and Ryan Borris fired over the bar.

Just a few moments later, on 25 minutes, Gow opened the scoring as he headed home from Jared Willett’s corner.

And on the stroke of half-time, Carson rifled in a terrific half-volley from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.

The Frew were still in the game at 2-0 but the hosts sealed the points with 10 minutes to go as Gow again headed into the net, with home striker Sharpe being shown a straight red card for an apparent gesture

Clark said: “We lost the battle in the first half.

“I thought they were hungry and wanted it more than us but, in the second half, we matched that and had the ball and put them under pressure.

“We had a foothold in the game at 2-0 and were looking for a goal to make it nervy but obviously the third goal kills the game.

“To lose the three goals to a couple of corners and a wonder strike is particularly frustrating.

“We had the opportunities to score but it’s not happening just now.”

Renfrew’s next match is on March 2.
