GLASGOW Clan captain Zack Fitzgerald says he has a degree of sympathy for his former team Sheffield Steelers after a turbulent season, but admits he’d much rather be where he is with his current team.

Pete Russell takes his team to Sheffield today for the first of a four-game spell on the road.

Clan romped to a 6-0 success on their last visit last month and Fitzgerald admits he’s been surprised at their poor campaign.

“I definitely feel for the core guys that are there, like the British players,” he said.

“To be in their situation is tough.

“Winning 6-0 in a place like Sheffield the last time we were there was surprising. That was a great game for us and, while they’ve had a tough year, we’ve been doing all the right things. Hopefully we can have the same outcome.”

Clan enjoyed an excellent 5-0 win over Belfast Giants on Sunday, strengthening their place in third spot in the Elite League table, three points ahead of Nottingham Panthers.

The team received the Gardiner Conference trophy after Sunday’s game, parading it in front of the 3,000 plus attendance at Braehead Arena and Fitzgerald says this is the first step for this team.
