JAMIE McKim has admitted that some Burgh players are maybe starting to ‘show their true colours’ after his side’s heavy 6-0 defeat away to Muirkirk at the weekend.

McKim had called on his makeshift squad to bounce back from last week’s Saltcoats loss but they weren’t able to do that as the Kirk brushed them aside at Burnside Park.

Burgh were under pressure from the off with Muikirk causing the defence real problems from set-pieces, opening the scoring 20 minutes in with a bullet header.

McKim’s men looked to hit back with Billy Davies unfortunate from close-range with Kirk scrambling to two goal line clearances.

But, just at the visitors looked to be finding their feet, Muirkirk doubled their advantage before killing off any hope of a fight back with their third 10 minutes before the break.

Burgh looked to posses more of an attacking threat after the restart but the game was put to bed just before the hour mark as the home side made it four with Jamie Mee easing past

Burgh defender Gareth Brown and blasting it into the roof of the net.

Stephen Campbell added a fifth before David Edwards rounded off the rout with the sixth five minutes from the end.

And while the gaffer has taken full responsibility for the loss, he revealed it may be time for some of his under-performing players to move on.

He said: “I’m just really disappointed with that. I let the players know after the game it wasn’t at the level I want.

“I didn’t expect the result last weekend and I didn’t expect that.

“We’ve come in for a lot of criticism on social media over the weekend. Johnstone Burgh is a big club and we shouldn’t be on the end of results like that. I take full responsibility for that result and the players take full responsibility for their performance too. They know they need to improve.

“I’m as frustrated as the fans. It should not be happening. With the players I have, it should not be happening.

“There’s some players who are maybe starting to show their true colours. Maybe I’m expecting too much from them? I don’t know. The Burgh jersey might weigh a bit too heavy for some of them. If that’s the case then they will be moving on with others ready to come in and take their place.”

Burgh won’t get the chance to put that Kirk loss behind them this weekend with no matches scheduled and McKim admits that’s just typical of their season so far with postponements and call-offs having a major impact in his side’s consistency.

He continued: “It’s disappointing and it’s typical. We’ve just been stop start and inconsistent for weeks now. We played well against Ashfield five weeks ago and since then we’ve not been able to really get going with postponements, games being abandoned and the two bad losses. There’s no opportunity to build any consistency or momentum at all.

“It’s the exact same scenario this weekend in that we don’t have the opportunity to bounce straight back. The disappointment from the 6-0 result will now last this week and all next week before we get the chance to put it right.”
