ST Mirren striker Danny Mullen is looking to put a frustrating season behind him and chip in with the goals to keep Saints up.

The former Livingston front man notched a double on the opening day of the campaign against Dundee but has since been out with a broken hand and a broken bone in his foot.

And Mullen lamented his first injury hit season of his career.

He said: "It's been a really frustrating season and it's the first time I've really experienced this. I scored two goals on the opening day and then it went downhill from there.

"I broke my hand against Hamilton and then needed an ankle operation. I'd rolled it in a reserve game but it wasn't too bad, so I played against Hibs.

"I then stood on Efe Ambrose's foot and it went again, so I was out for a while. It's not been an ideal season but I have plenty more in front of me and I just need to keep going.

"It has been mentally tough but the physio has really kept me going. He's doing that for Kyle Magennis too at the moment as he's had a hard time.

"It's tough but you just need to get on with it. I will learn a lot from this season. Things haven't gone for me but I have learned you just need to keep going.”

Mullen has admitted he can’t believe the turnover in Paisley since August, but insists the new boys have settled in well.

Boss Oran Kearney made three attacking changes as Ryan Flynn‘s last minute winner gave the Buddies a massive three points against Livi on Saturday.

And the 24-year-old credited the Northern Irishman for making the bold move.

He continued: “There have been a lot of changes but the boys coming in have done really well. We are now getting to the last period of the season and the boys are here to stay. We are all in it together and we are going to give it one big push.

"The belief has always been there. We just haven't always got results. But picking up points in games has given us a boost in the last few weeks. Aberdeen, Hearts and Livi...getting five points was good - and it could have been more.

"We dug in against Livi until the death and getting the winner was massive. We kept attacking and the manager made a bold move with his changes - and it paid off. With the quality we have on the bench, it can only stand us in good stead with players pushing for starts.”
