ST Mirren missed the chance to lift themselves off the bottom of the table as they lost to Kilmarnock.

Liam Miller’s 87th minute winner gave the Rugby Park side all three points on a blustery night in Paisley.

Oran Kearney’s side were on a three game unbeaten run and had brought themselves to within just a point of Dundee with a 1-0 win over Livingston on Saturday.

While Steve Clarke’s men headed into the game on an eight match winless streak after a goalless stalemate in their rearranged encounter with Motherwell at the weekend.

The home side almost got off to the perfect start inside three minutes but Kyle McAllister’s effort fell just the wrong side of the post .

Then on 12 minutes Paul McGinn forced a good low save from Daniel Bachmann as Saints began well.

Chris Burke would then have a speculative shot for Killie, easily gathered by Vaclav Hladky, before Simeon Jackson tested Bachmann again.

Killie almost snatched the lead in the last minute of the half but Eamonn Brophy's free kick went just over.

Brophy cracked an early second half effort against the post as Steve Clarke’s team started the stronger.

Rory MacKenzie would flash another strike over the bar with 13 minutes remaining.

Killie opened the scoring with just three minutes to go, Brophy squaring for Miller to seal the victory.

A disappointed Oran Kearney said: "We experienced a last-minute winner last week and the joys that go with it and then the shoe's on the other foot tonight when we got hit with a sucker blow at the end.

"There were few chances in the game and it was just disappointing that we lacked that wee clinical edge to take something from it.

"It wasn't pretty and it wasn't free-flowing but what we got in attitude and endeavour was right up where it's been for the last few games. It won't take away from where we're at and if we get another ten performances and that attitude we won't be far away.

"The outcome was disappointing but against a team like Kilmarnock it wasn't the worst performance."
