ST Mirren midfielder Brad Lyons couldn't hide his frustration as Saints missed out on the chance to leapfrog Dundee after losing to Kilmarnock.

The on-loan Blackburn Rovers man had missed the last couple of weeks through injury and returned down south for rehab before playing the full 90 on Monday night

But the 21-year-old insisted one disappointing result wasn't about to swing the momentum back from the Saints.

He said: "It’s always tough after a defeat but I thought we created enough chances to get a draw or even the win.

"We dug deep and we were in the game for a long time but they have sneaked it, so yeah, a frustrating game now.

"We weren’t really looking at the table, we were just trying to concentrate on ourselves, we have nine more games and we’re going to try and pick up every point possible. It is frustrating that we could have gone above Dundee but it’s more frustrating that we never got three points.

"We’re a strong group and it’s not going to get to us. We’ll dust ourselves down and then focus on Saturday away to St Johnstone.

"We’re a good group, we’ll be focusing on trying to get the three points there, as I say we’ve got nine cup finals left.

"Since January the gaffer has brought boys in, myself included, as a group we’re getting closer and closer together and performing better and better."

Lyons, who previously worked with boss Oran Kearney at Coleraine, is targeting a win against St Johnstone on Saturday to pile the pressure on Dundee who face Celtic on Sunday.

And he also admits he is enjoying the experience of a relegation battle and thinks it will help him later on in his career.

He continued: "I think it would be massive. We’re just going to go and try to pick up the three points. If we do it would put us above them, and put the pressure on them, for once.

"Hopefully, if we get the win, it would give us a good boost. The last three weeks we’ve got good results and we’ve carried them on, it was frustrating, we couldn’t carry that on.

"If I can handle this pressure with the fans expecting so much and even the players expecting so much of themselves, and the club fighting to stay up, it’s doing me the world of good and hopefully it can stand me in good stead for the future."
