St Mirren couldn't make it two wins on the bounce as they fell to a 2-0 at home to champions-elect Celtic at the Simple Digital Arena.

A Timothy Weah header and a deflected Ryan Christie strike separated the Saints and Neil Lennon's side last night in Paisley.

It actually turned into a decent night for the Buddies in the end with defeats for Dundee and Hamilton meaning they don’t lose any ground in the relegation battle.

The game was marred by a firecracker incident in the aftermath of the second goal, which meant Vaclav Hladky needed to be checked by the physio.

Oran Kearney’s side came into the game in good spirits after dragging themselves off bottom spot in the Premiership table with a 2-1 win over Dundee at the weekend.

Celtic, meanwhile, won an action packed Old Firm game on Sunday to move 13 points clear of city rivals Rangers at the top of the league.

The visitors had the majority of the ball for the opening exchanges and had an unbelievable chance to go ahead with Kirsoffer Ajer who missed a sitter.

However, the runaway league leaders wouldn’t be denied moments later after Weah headed home 14 minutes in with those in black and white not convinced that the full ball crossed the line.

Celtic had a great chance to double their advantage from the penalty spot half an hour in but Hladky saved well from Olivier Ntcham.

And while Lennon’s side kept the ball for most of the remainder of the half, they couldn't extend their lead before the break.

Hladky would make an excellent save from Burke with his feet in the second-half before St Mirren threatened up the other end for the first time.

In the 52nd minute Hoops keeper Scott Bain did well to tip Cody Cooke's curling shot past the post after a mix-up in the Celtic defence with Haiti international Duckens Nazon missing a header at the back post from the subsequent corner.

Cooke would force an outstretched Bain into a fine save before indecision from Nazon wasted a guilt edged chance.

The visitors then wrapped it up with five minutes remaining through a deflected goal from Christie.

Oran Kearney condemned the incident with his goalkeeper, saying: “Vaclav’s okay. I had a brief chat with him but we’re just thankful that it wasn’t more sinister. I was standing 50-60 yards away and it made me jump so I dread to think how loud it would have been for him."
