DEFENCEMAN Matt Stanisz became the latest Glasgow Clan star to sign up for the 2019/20 season, with head coach Pete Russell’s roster for next season beginning to take shape.

Clan’s season may have ended earlier this month after a PredictorBet quarter-final play-off loss at the hands of Guildford Flames but Russell and Chief Operating Officer Gareth Chalmers have been hard at work as they tie down a number of key players for next season – with Canadian ace Stanisz the latest.

The 28-year-old was a popular player with the Purple Army last season after joining from EIHL rivals Manchester Storm, going on to record 32 points in 55 matches for the Braehead side while also picking up Clan’s Defenceman of the Year award.

Russell said he is delighted the Clan will be able to welcome Stanisz back for the 2019/20 campaign, hailing his consistency throughout the season.

He added: “It’s great to have Stan back with the Clan next season. Stan was one of our most consistent performers last season. He is a solid two-way D-man who can play in all situations.

“He was a key part in the locker room and another one of the core we wanted to retain.”

Earlier this month, Clan confirmed the capture of Craig Moore from Fife Flyers and Patrick Killeen from MK Lightning, as well as tying down deals to keep Scott Pitt and Scott Tanski at the club, while netminder Joel Rumpel, Michal Gutwald, Vaclav Stupka, Guillaume Doucet and Zach Sullivan were all released.
