Sean McLoughlin has joined St Mirren on a six-month loan deal and will go straight into the starting XI for their opening match of the Scottish Premiership season away to Hibernian this Saturday.

The young Irish centre-half joined the Buddies on a temporary basis from English Championship side Hull City following his transfer from Cork City last week.

Capped at U21 level for the Republic of Ireland, the 22-year-old becomes Jim Goodwin's sixth signing of the summer.

Speaking to stmirren.com, McLoughlin, who had the choice of remaining in England with a League One club but opted to join St Mirren after meeting with Goodwin earlier in the week, said: "It came about a couple of days ago and I'm really excited to get up here.

"I've still got a lot to learn but I'm looking forward to the challenge and looking forward to bettering myself and helping the team.

"I know the Scottish league is a tough, challenging league.

"There's some massive teams, some massive games and a huge fan base up here so it's definitely a great place to be and I'm really looking forward to it.
