Paisley Rugby Club were in sensational form at the weekend as they retained the Renfrewshire Cup with an emphatic 47-0 win over local rivals Bishopton.
With both sides enjoying a large and vocal support, the game kicked-off under the warm summer sun.
Paisley started well in the blistering heat and blustery wind and were soon camped inside the visitor’s half.
And it looked to be a case of when not if the floodgates would open and the home support were not to be disappointed as Robert John, Lee Haughey, Michael Somerville and Scott Sutherland all crossed with captain Euan Stuart converting as the first-half ended 28-0.
Continuous fouling after the break saw the score creep up to 35-0 with two more tries from Shaun Brittain and Colin Mckay closing it out as Euan lifted the trophy to the delight of the home support.
Paisley head coach Simon Brown said: “I couldn’t have asked for a better start but it is only a start and training will start to intensify in preparation for our league campaign.
“We have a very strong squad. The competition for places augurs well and it was great to see the players not playing on the sidelines supporting the team.”
