TO help grow and develop their junior section, Bishopton Rugby Club have hired a development officer for the upcoming 2019/20 season.

Working with Park Mains High School and other local catchment primary schools, Sean Callaghan will also help the club by delivering coaching education to junior coaches.

With a BSc in sports development and previous experience as a sessional coach with Renfrewshire Leisure, Callaghan bring great theoretical knowledge to the role.

Callaghan also has years of playing experience, recently joining Tennents Premiership team Glasgow Hutchesons Aloysians having previously spent five years at Whitecraigs at National 2 and under-18 level.

And, under Callaghan’s guidance, Bishopton’s junior rugby section returned from their long summer break last week.

The club are also on the lookout for new players to join their ever-growing team and have welcomed all children to come and give it a try.

Training sessions for P1 children take place on Sunday’s from 11am while P2 to P7 training starts at noon.

Bishopton’s men’s senior team, meanwhile, train on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 7pm to 8.30pm and the women’s team train on Monday’s and Thursday’s, also from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Bishopton’s senior side get their Tennent’s West Region League Division 3 campaign underway this weekend as they play host to Shawlands RFC. Kick-of at Holmpark playing fields is 3pm.
