Jim Goodwin not worried about St Mirren's lack of goals

Saints failed to capitalise on having a man advantage for the majority of the second half of last weekend’s goalless stalemate with Hamilton after George Oakley’s dismissal.

But Goodwin feels his Buddies are not far away from clicking in the final third.

He said: “It is not something we have been making a huge song and dance about (but) it is clear for everyone to see we haven’t scored enough goals in the opening six games.

"It is certainly not for the lack of trying and the boys are out there on the training pitch every day doing extra sessions.

"But, it is hard trying to recreate what happens at the weekend. We are not overly concerned about it. We just need to take responsibility as a group and not point fingers.”

Paisley keeper Vaclav Hladky picked up his second clean sheet of his league campaign against Hamilton and Goodwin hopes that can be extended when they welcome Hearts to the Simple Digital Arena tomorrow.

The Irishman also wants to try and and take advantage of the fact that Hearts went all the way to penalties to secure their BetFred Cup semi-final place against Aberdeen.

He continued: “We’ve had three home games against Aberdeen, Rangers and Hamilton and got two clean sheets.

"In the other game Rangers needed a fantastic free kick to break the deadlock. Defensively we know we’re solid.

"We’re organised and the structure of the team is good. It’s just that bit in the final third that we’re desperate to get right.

"There’s no denying that our boys should be fresher than the Hearts lads. But I think they’ll also going to be coming in to the game feeling good about themselves.

"The two results have taken the pressure off Craig (Levein) and his players and they’ll now be looking forward to the weekend."
