TONY Andreu has backed Junior Morias and Jon Obika to both break their St Mirren duck soon, writes Kyle Gunn. 

Neither striker has been able to get on the scoresheet since joining the Paisley club in the summer, although Obika has had one wrongly chopped off for offside. 

But the French midfielder, who netted for the first time himself in the defeat to Ross County two weeks ago, wouldn’t be surprised if it happened when the Buddies host Hearts this afternoon.

He said: “When you’re a striker you just want that first goal to get you going. They are both working really hard and maybe just need a bit more luck on their side.

"In training you can see how well they are doing. And if they can score goals in training there is no reason why they can’t also do it in a match. Hopefully they can do it today.

“We all need to chip in and do our bit because we’re not scoring enough goals.

"And if you don’t score, then you can’t win. We have been playing quite well despite that but now we have to start putting the ball in the back of the net.

"That’s what we’ve been working hard on but we have to kick on now.

“All of our games have been very tight. When we have lost it has only been by one goal.

"So, it is better to be in this position than losing 5-0 every week. We know we need to be better in the final third.

"If we can improve there we will definitely get points and that’s a positive." 

Having not won a league game all season this time last week, Hearts have beaten Hibs and secured a League Cup semi-final spot in the last six days.

He continued: "We have to keep focusing on ourselves. We have to play our game like last week but also adding some goals. Hearts have maybe struggled a little bit at the beginning of the season.

"But you get a couple of good results and you move near the top right away as that’s how it is in this league. Hearts are a strong team that sometimes likes to play direct.

"They have good quality players in the middle of the park but we will try to exploit some other areas."
