On-loan Hull City centre-half Sean McLoughlin reckons his spell at St Mirren is going as well as he could have hoped for – and revealed he is open to staying in Paisley beyond January.

McLoughlin, who is yet to play for the Tigers after making a summer switch from Cork City, has made 15 appearances for countryman Jim Goodwin’s side, scoring once so far this season.

The 23-year-old is due to return south next month when his loan expires and, while he admits his future is up in the air, he is open to the idea of staying in Paisley.

McLoughlin said: “My loan ends in January and, when the time comes, it’s about sitting down and discussing what’s next. Nothing has been decided yet and, for myself and the club, it’s about focusing on the next few weeks and the important games coming up. I just want to keep playing games, whether that’s here or wherever. I’ll focus on that for the next few weeks and then sit down and discuss.”

McLoughlin is now turning his attention towards putting a winning run together to steer Saints away from the relegation battle after Saturday’s 2-1 loss away to Aberdeen and has targeted tonight’s clash with Motherwell as a key fixture.

He said: “Saturday was hard to take as we were in the game. We certainly had the chance to take at least one point.

“We are taking the positives from that into the Motherwell game. There is confidence to be taken from the performance.”
