Kyle Magennis’ 100th appearance in a St Mirren shirt didn’t quite go to plan on Wednesday night, but he revealed he was pleased to reach the milestone nonetheless.

The midfielder was in the starting XI as Motherwell’s 3-0 victory on Wednesday night consigned the Paisley side to the foot of the Ladbrokes Premiership table.

And while the the 21-year-old was of course happy to reach 100, he couldn’t hide his disappointment at his side's display.

He said: "It’s a bit bittersweet. Obviously it’s brilliant to get 100 appearances but it’s not the result or the performance that we were looking for. We need to make sure that we rectify that on Saturday.

“I thought we were in the game for the first 15, 20 minutes. There wasn’t much in it, but , as soon as they scored, I don’t know what happened, we’ll need to look at it back on the video - it wasn’t good enough.”

St Mirren face an away trip to Hamilton tomorrow and Magennis is desperate for a chance to put the result and performance right.

Saints face Brian Rice’s men followed by games against Livingston and St Johnstone before Christmas as they look to climb the league standings.

And the Scotland under-21 reckons the first goal against Accies could make all the difference.

He added: “I think that’s probably one of our worst performances of the season. It’s a massive game on Saturday now so we need to go and make a change, and hopefully get the three points.

“I think the past few games, we have actually played well and that’s been our downfall, we’ve just not taken our chances.

"Hopefully we get an early goal, and we can go and take the game to them. I think the first goal is going to be massive. Hopefully it’s us that get it and we can go and add some more goals to that. But we’ll just need to wait and see.”
