Paul McGinn insists the St Mirren players know just how poor they were against Motherwell on Wednesday but, just in case they didn’t, the supporters weren't shy in telling them, he revealed.

A first-half double from James Scott and a second-half tap in for Allan Campbell handed Stephen Robinson’s Well side all three points at the Simple Digital Arena.

And right-back McGinn reckons it must have been a bad showing for the fans to turn as they have steadfastly backed them all season.

He said: “It was self-destruct stuff against Motherwell. We shot ourselves in the foot and they took well advantage very quickly.

"The boys are angry and frustrated that it was our own fault. The fans never turn on you here really so you know when they have that you deserved it - and we did.

"We were really poor. The league is still tight and hopefully with this quick run of games coming up before the break that we can get ourselves off the bottom.”

Looking ahead, McGinn has urged his side to put the Steelmen loss behind them and haul themselves off bottom spot in the Ladbrokes Premiership table with a big run of games over the next couple of weeks.

First, Saints travel to Hamilton this afternoon before taking on Livingston and St Johnstone.

McGinn continued: “We just need to forget about the Motherwell game because there’s nothing to gain from dwelling on it.

"We’ve been getting away with it a wee bit with results around us but that doesn’t last. We need to take our opportunities now and we need to go into these massive games against teams around about us and we need to come out better than them."
