ST MIRREN boss Jim Goodwin is looking for home comforts tomorrow as he called for his side to get back to winnnig ways in Paisley, writes Kyle Gunn

The Buddies had only lost one goal and game at the Simple Digital Arena - which came against Rangers - before recent defeats to Hibs and Motherwell.

But Goodwin is relieved to have secured Saints' first away points of the season with a victory at Hamilton last weekend.

He said: “We did really well earlier in the season defensively. Our record was great. But we’ve gone away from that a little bit in the last couple of games.

"Before we were really difficult to beat but not the most offensive of sides.

"More recently we’ve tried to be a bit more attacking-minded but with that you lose a bit of defensive stability. It’s difficult to do both.

"We have to get that balance right from being well-organised and a team that’s hard to beat but also posing a goal threat. That’s what we want to do.

“Against Hamilton it was good to not only win the game but also get another clean sheet which was something we hadn’t had in a wee while.

"On Saturday we want to get another one against Livingston as if we do I always fancy us to grab a goal as we’ve got good quality up front.

"And the boys up front are showing a bit of confidence which is what we need.

“The away form had been terrible and there’s no getting away from that. Hopefully getting that first win last weekend will give the boys confidence that they’re capable of doing that.

"The big problem for us is this season has been a lack of consistency.

"We’ve not been able to put a string of results together. We need to now back up that good result against Hamilton with another good one against Livingston.

"It’s really important we don’t win one then lose another three. We need to put together a run of good results consecutively.”

St Mirren are currently without both experienced central defenders Gary MacKenzie and Kirk Broadfoot due to injury

Paul McGinn, who filled in the middle of the defence last weekend, picked up his own injury against Accies and Goodwin rates him 50-50 to face Gary Holt’s Livingston.

He continued: “We’re not quite at the stage yet where I need to look out the boots! But the squad was tight anyway and it’s sod’s law that you get injuries and they’re all in the same area of the pitch.

"It’s very frustrating as it’s key players who are involved. Kirk Broadfoot, Gary MacKenzie, Sam Foley and Paul McGinn are four of our more experienced players, big characters and leaders on the park.

"Kirk and Gary are definitely out and Paul and Sam are 50:50 at the moment.

"We won’t rule them out until the last minute but it’s a concern.”
