ST MIRREN boss Jim Goodwin has confirmed that Paul McGinn is on Premiership rivals Hibernian's radar.

Easter Road gaffer Jack Ross, who actually re-signed the right-back for the Paisley side just before heading to Sunderland, is looking for a replacement for another former Saints defender Jason Naismith after he suffered a season ending injury.

And, while insisting that he doesn’t want to lose any members of his current squad, Goodwin admits that the ball is firmly in the player’s court.

He said: "Jack Ross likes Paul and they need a right-back after Jason Naismith did his cruciate. There has been a bit of interest and we’ll see what happens.

“We don’t want to lose any players as our squad is very light. There’s been an enquiry and the ball is in Paul’s court. But we don’t want to lose anyone, especially someone as important as Paul has been to this club over the years. But we don’t want to keep a player that is unhappy. So we’ll see what comes of it.”

McGinn started on the bench yesterday and came on in injury time to shore up the back four as they picked a valuable point against Aberdeen.

Goodwin was delighted with his side’s commitment from start to finish as they held Derek McInnes’ Dons to a draw.

And the Irishman was perhaps slightly disappointed that his side didn’t take all three points after Jon Obika’s glorious opportunity in the first half went begging.

He continued: “We’re obviously pleased to get a point against a good Aberdeen team.

"We probably had the best opportunity of the game in the first half. We get a break of the ball after the Aberdeen boy makes as mistakes and Jon is through.

"It’s not a straightforward opportunity as he had two defenders breathing down his neck and he hits it with his weaker foot and it comes back off the post. He maybe could have taken it a bit closer to Joe Lewis.

"A point against a team that’s been second or third for the last five or six years has to be a plus for us."
