Celtic target Ben Davies is reportedly targeting a move to the Bundesliga when his contract runs up at Preston.
The Hoops had been in the market for the left-sided defender in the summer but were put off by a pricey fee, believed to be in the region of around £10million.
Alfie Doughty at Charlton was also a serious target and is understood to still be on Celtic's radar with an eye on a January pre-contract agreement.
However Davies, according to the Sun, is now on the radar of Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke who could both potentially offer more cash to the Deepdale side and in terms of contract negotiations with the player himself.
Davies, 25, began his career as a left-back but made the transition to a central defender in recent years. He has made five appearances for his club this season so far.
